【摘要】:1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofin-placedensityofsoilbythedrive-cylindermethod.Thetestmethodinvolvesobtainingarelativelyundisturbedsoilsamplebydrivingathin-walledcylinderandthesubsequentactivitiesforthedeterminationofin-placedensity.Whensamplingorin-placedensityisrequiredatdepth,TestMethodD1587shouldbeused.1.2Thistestmethodisnotappropriateforsamplingorganicsoilswhichcancompressuponsampling,veryhardnaturalsoilsandheavilycompactedsoilswhichcannotbeeasilypenetratedbythedrivesampler,soilsoflowplasticitywhichwillnotbereadilyretainedinthecylinder,orsoilswhichcontainappreciableamountsofgravel(particlescoarserthan4.75mm(3/16in.)).Thepresenceofparticlescoarserthan4.75mm(3/16in.)mayintroducesignificanterrorsindensitymeasurementsbycausingvoidsalongthewallofthecylinderduringdriving,andwhencoarsematerialshavetobedislodgedbythetrimmingofthesampleobtainedbythecylinder.1.3Thistestmethodislimitedtotheproceduresnecessaryforobtainingspecimenssuitablefordeterminingthein-placedensityandwatercontentofcertainsoils.Theproceduresandprecautionsnecessaryforselectinglocationsandobtainingundisturbedsamplessuitableforlaboratorytestingorotherwisedeterminingengineeringpropertiesisbeyondthescopeofthistestmethod.1.4Itiscommonpracticeintheengineeringprofessiontoconcurrentlyusepoundstorepresentbothaunitofmass(lbm)andaunitofforce(lbf).Thisimplicitlycombinestwoseparatesystemsofunits,thatis,theabsolutesystemandthegravitationalsystem.Itisscientificallyundesirabletocombinetheuseoftwoseparatesetsofinch-poundunitswithinasinglestandard.Thistestmethodhasbeenwrittenusingthegravitationalsystemofunitswhendealingwiththeinch-poundsystem.Inthissystemthepound(lbf)representsaunitofforce(weight).However,theuseofbalancesorscalesrecordingpoundsofmass(lbm),ortherecordingofdensityinlbm/ft3shouldnotberegardedasnonconformancewiththistestmethod.1.5AllobservedandcalculatedvaluesshallconformtotheguidelinesforsignificantdigitsandroundingestablishedinPracticeD6026.1.6ThestandardvaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesinparenthesesareprovidedforinformationpurposesonly.1.7Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
